Outside Maintenance
The Carroll County Farm has other responsibilities along with all the farming that it does. One of those responsibilities is the outside maintenance of the County Complex. This includes all the lawn care in the summer which has to be done at least once a week if not more some times. In the spring the farm crew does all the spring clean up on the complex, which includes sweeping the parking lots and fixing the lawn that was tore up by the snow plows. In the fall we have some leaves that need to be raked up or mulched and areas need to be prepared for winter snow storms.  In the winter the farm crew does all the plowing of the driveways and removal of snow on the sidewalks. After snow is removed a sand salt mixture is applied to the surfaces in order to keep them from being slippery, this is a very important process for the safety of the public and employees that travel to the complex. The county has many operations that are a 24/7 operation so the farm crew must make sure that all those driveways and sidewalks are maintained for shift changes and for emergency vehicles responding to the complex. The farm crew also maintains the emergency generators for three different buildings on the complex.  Most all the buildings are heated with propane at this point which feeds from one large propane tank. The level of the propane tank and any kind emergency dealing with propane on the complex falls on the farm crew as well.
